Bobby Gene Moffett 78 passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013 in Houston, Texas. He was born on Monday, May 6, 1935 in Livingston, Texas to Henry Oscar and Clara Thelma (Diamond) Moffett, both of whom have preceded him in death. Bobby was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years Shirley Moffett, brothers Holcomb, Doug, Emerald, Garrison and Charles Moffett, sisters, Mary Pearl Jacoby, and Janeatte Ruth Moffett; Left to cherish his memory is his precious daughter - Cynthia Kaye Moffett Koon and favorite son-in-law Robby; grandchildren - Coleigh and Moffett Koon; Great-Niece - Chelsey Mize; Very Very Special Friend and Companion - Janie Lundy; brothers - Jimmy Moffett and wife Mary, Johnny Moffett; sisters - Betty Skillern and husband Link, Gloria McCullough; along with numerous other loving family and treasured friends.
Bobby grew up working everyday he could, delivering local papers or pumping gas at the local Shell station in Goodrich, Texas. He moved to Cleveland in 1955, where he took a job at Martin Chevrolet. In 1958 he married Shirley Keith, and that same year he entered the U.S. Army. During his time in the Army he served in Korea. He was discharged from the Army in 1960 as a sergeant and returned to Martin Chevrolet where he quickly moved up to a front line mechanic. In June of 1965, Bobby went into business for himself as an automotive and truck repair along with a wrecker service. In 1967 Bobby took on International Trucks and operated under the "Moffett Motors" name. As years progressed Moffett Motors grew into a very prominent Lawn/Garden and Tractor Dealership. Taking on International, Cub Cadet, Zetor, Mahindra and ended with the Kubota Lines. Bobby was a member of Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department, member/president of Cleveland Athletic Booster Club, member of Chamber of Commerce and city council. Bobby also served on the Cleveland Independent School Board. After retirement Bobby became a lifetime member of the Cleveland Historical Society. Bobby continued managing numerous rental properties around town and enjoyed his life watching his grandkids grow up as well as traveling the country in his motor home right up to his death
Visitation for Bobby will be held at Neal Funeral Home on Tuesday July 16, 2013 from 5 to 9 pm. Funeral Services for Bobby will be held on Wednesday July 17, 2013, at Christian Life Center at 10 am. Burial for Bobby will immediately follow at Cleveland Memorial Cemetery. Bishop Nelson Neyland, Rev Franklin Howard and Rev Jerry Matthews officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends at the Lonesome Dove following the services for a catered dinner.
All services were handled under the trusted care of Neal Funeral Home.
