Donald G. Hawthorne, of Shepherd, Texas, entered into rest on Monday, March 18, 2024, at 67. He was born on Thursday, December 20, 1956, in Cleveland, Texas, to Harvey E. Hawthorne and Flora Faye Hawthorne. Donald is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harvey A. Hawthorne and Edna Hawthorne; maternal grandparents, Lige Walters and Dovie Walters; brother, Harvey E. Hawthorne, Jr.; and sister, Carla R. Hoard.
Donald's life was marked by a profound dedication to his family and his work. Beyond his commitment to work, Donald found solace in the simplicity of life's pleasures. Whether he was behind the wheel of his tractor or tinkering in his shop, his contentment was evident. Donald's love for life extended to his diverse interests, from his passion for movies and technology to his appreciation for Japanese cuisine, particularly sushi. He was a certified scuba diver and seemed happiest when surrounded by water. He had great affection for animals, both large and small, and he possessed a special fondness for children, effortlessly captivating them with his gentle demeanor at social and family gatherings. Above all, Donald's heart belonged to his family. As a devoted husband and father, he prioritized their happiness above all else. Still, his greatest joy came from his role as a proud grandfather to his cherished grandson, Lance.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Glinda Hawthorne; daughter, Erin Hawthorne Goad and husband Roy; sister, Carol Hawthorne; grandchild, Donald "Lance" Goad; along with numerous other loving family and a host of friends. Pallbearers are Roy Goad , Jason Harrison, Scott Hoard, Mark Barnett, Steven Walters, James Clark. Honorary pallbearers are Tyler Harrison and Lance Goad. Visitation for Donald will be held at Neal Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Funeral Services for Donald will be held at Neal Funeral Home on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 11:00AM. Interment for Donald will immediately follow at Menard Chapel Cemetery.
