Doris Morjorie Harris, 92, of Cleveland, Texas passed away from this earth on Monday, November 28, 2016 and went home to her Heavenly Father. She was born on Wednesday, June 11, 1924, in Hull-Daisetta, Texas to Reo and Laura Tommie (Johns) Estes, both of whom have preceded her in death. Doris was also preceded in death by her spouse, Reverend J. L. Hollaway; sister, Deloris. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband Glen A. Harris; daughters, Sue Cornelius and husband Jerry, Connie Jo Johnson and husband Kenneth; grandchildren, Ronnie Walling, Ronda Archer, Rachelle Huber, Jeffery Johnson, Jodi Lozano; great-grandchildren, Rio Walling, Levi Walling, Mia Bergstrom, Susan Archer, Scarlett Sue Sullivan, Libby Lozano, Paris Johnson, Pierce Johnson; great-great grandchildren, Abigale, Gracie, Vincent, Mac; along with numerous other loving family and treasured friends. Especially dear to her were Glen's family: Diane Farrish and husband John; son, Michael Harris and wife Danita, Thomas Harris; brother, Warren Estes and wife Sandra; sister, Juanita James and husband Glen.
During the WWII era, Doris lived in Corpus Christi where she was a "Rosie the Riveter," repairing airplane exteriors. She became a pastor's wife and ministered alongside her husband for 50 years. After his death, she continued to minister, serving as a volunteer hospital chaplain to several area hospitals where she prayed with families and patients. Only heaven knows how many lives she changed with her unfailing love and constant faith. She had read the Bible numerous times and she rose early every day to pray over each of her family members, her friends, and her country. Hers was truly a life lived for Jesus.
Visitation for Doris will be held at Neal Funeral Home on Thursday, December 1, 2016, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services for will be held at Neal Funeral Home on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 10:00 am. Interment for Doris will immediately follow at Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens. Dr. Walton officiating.
