Gene L. Wright

Gene L. Wright, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, departed this world on August 17, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on July 7, 1937, in Gary, Indiana, Gene lived a life full of adventure and love, touching the hearts of all who knew him.

Gene had a passion for flying that soared high above the clouds. He took various flying lessons and ultimately celebrated the milestone of his solo flight, a testament to his daring spirit and zest for life. This adventurous spirit also led him to traverse the open roads as a big rig driver for Snyder, where he experienced the freedom of the interstate and the beauty of America’s landscapes.

Survived by his beloved wife, Bobbie Parker Wright, Gene's love and devotion were evident in every moment they shared. He was a proud father to Judy Reed, Pam Phelps, Laqueta O'Neal, and Gary Wright, instilling in them the values of hard work and perseverance. His legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren: Timothy Lair, Christopher Lair, Amy Massey, Gary Gene Freelen, Amber Massey, Angela Montoya, April Gross, Jake Phelps, Tiffany Hawthorne, Brittany Stankouich, Travis Wright, Kyndal Monacy, Kaylin Monacy, and Devin Wright, who will remember him fondly as a guiding light in their lives.

In addition to his immediate family, Gene leaves behind cherished friends, Jim and Fran Tyler and Sidney and Jerry Pye, who enrich his memory with their love and shared experiences.

While Gene has been reunited with his late father, Robert Laird, and his mother, Ruth Bryant Laird, his spirit remains alive in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Gene L. Wright will always be remembered for his adventurous spirit, unconditional love, and the warmth he brought to everyone around him. His journey on this earth may have concluded, but the memories of his laughter, wisdom, and kindness will forever illuminate the lives he touched.

Cremation services were held under the direction of Neal Funeral Home.
