Georgia Washington McGowen, a beloved matriarch and dedicated caregiver, passed away on March 4, 2025, at the age of 85 in Conroe, Texas. Born on February 17, 1940, in Coldspring, Texas, Georgia was a woman of immense warmth and compassion.
Throughout her career, Georgia devoted herself to the well-being of others, working in Home Health Care and also providing her time and talents to the Boys & Girls Club. Known as a faithful servant to the LORD, she opened her heart and home to many, welcoming children and friends alike into an environment filled with love and support. Her kind nature made her a people person who never met a stranger, and she was known for her generous spirit as a provider for those in her life.
Georgia cherished her family and is survived by her children, Johnny D. Denson and wife Barbara, Floyd McGowen, Evelyn McGowen, Ethel Mae Sanders and husband Ozell, Alec Earl McGowen and wife Patti, and Lesia Roberts and husband Larry. She is also survived by her special sister, Willie Jean Harrison, and special friend, Hattie Lee McKinney. Georgia was the proud grandmother of 26 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and16 great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, step-sisters, step-brothers, and a host of friends and family, who will remember her fondly.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene McGowen; her parents, Elmer Washington, Sr. and Ethel "Roberts" Washington; brothers, John L. Washington and Elmer Washington, Jr.; sisters, Clori Jean Green and Gertha Rogers; as well as grandchildren Stephanie Denson and Mac Anthony Roberts; and daughter-in-law Karlen McGowen. Georgia Washington McGowen will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
Visitation will take place on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Neal Funeral Home, 200 S. Washington Ave, Cleveland, Texas, 77327. Visitation prior to the funeral service will be 10:00 AM to 11:00AM and funeral services to follow at 11:00AM, will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025 both will be at Calvary Baptist Church, 65 Petroleum Road, Coldspring, Texas 77331. Burial Service to follow at Coldspring Community Cemetery, Coldspring, Texas 77331.
