Jerry Ray Hanley Jr., affectionately known as "PawPaw," was born in Lexington, Kentucky on June 21, 1954, and departed this world on September 18, 2024. A dedicated father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Jerry lived a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him.

For his warm heart and generous spirit, Jerry brought joy to every gathering with his stories shared from the comfort of his porch. His passion for storytelling was only rivaled by his love for family, particularly his wonderful grandsons, Jerry John Weasley Hanley IV and Raistlin Kaine Hanley. Nothing made Jerry prouder than the time spent with them, whether it was going antiquing or simply enjoying time together. His playful spirit shined bright, especially in December when he would play the role of Santa Claus, creating magical moments that his family will forever treasure.

Jerry’s love for adventure was evident as he proudly served as a United States Navy veteran, which led to his fondness for the water and fishing, where he found peace and joy. He had a rich history with motorcycles, the thrill of the open road reflecting his free spirit. His affinity for horses also highlighted his connection to nature, showcasing a love for the outdoors that was integral to his identity. A devoted servant to the Lord, Jerry’s faith guided his actions as he lived his life as a peacemaker, always striving to bring harmony to those around him. His legacy is built on the values he instilled in his family and friends—love, compassion, and faith.

Jerry is survived by his loving son, Jerry Lee Hanley III, and his wife Jessica, who continue to carry forward his caring spirit. Alongside them, his wonderful grandsons, who were his pride and joy, will keep his memory alive in their hearts. He leaves behind a sister, Andrea Carlsen, and her husband Eric, who will hold dear the memories they shared. His friendships were deep and loyal; best friend Mike Jones and his wife Julia, along with long-time family friend Frankie Martin and his wife Irma, remain grateful for the moments spent together, reveling in laughter and camaraderie.

In his passing, Jerry is reunited with those who preceded him, including his father Jerry Ray Hanley Sr., and his mother, Walta Victoria Hanley, alongside his beloved brothers: Pastor Chuck Hanley and his wife Edna, Tim Hanley, Gary Hanley, and James Bishop. His sisters, Donna Eades, MaryAnne Woodard, and Glenda Hatfield are also part of his legacy that continues in the lives he touched.

As we remember Jerry Ray Hanley Jr., let us celebrate the life he led—a life rich in love, storytelling, adventure, and unwavering faith. His spirit will forever remain a guiding light, illuminating the path for all who were fortunate enough to call him family or a friend.
