Kevin Lee Thoms

Kevin Lee Thoms, born on January 24, 1964, in Denison, Texas, left this world on March 5, 2025, in Shepherd, Texas. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose impact on his community and family resonates deeply with all who knew him.

Kevin’s journey began with a strong sense of duty, leading him to join the United States Navy at a young age. After receiving his GED at 17, he proudly served for four years, traveling the world and participating in four western Pacific deployments, all before the onset of Desert Storm. His military service instilled in him values of honor and commitment that he carried throughout his life.

After transitioning to civilian life, Kevin developed a passion for pipe fitting and welding, where he honed his skills and dedication to craftsmanship. Unfortunately, a job-related injury resulted in a disability that altered the course of his career. However, Kevin remained undeterred and adapted to new circumstances; he could often be found helping his father at a local propane company. Kevin spent many cold holidays assisting those in need, fixing tanks for community members without ever accepting payment. His pride came from knowing that his efforts helped others stay warm, embodying his selflessness and unwavering support for the community.

In 1992, Kevin met the love of his life, Linda Floyd Thoms, embracing her children and forming a blended family that he cherished deeply. Together, they welcomed a daughter, Kassidy, in 1996, completing their family unit. Kevin found immense joy in watching his grandchildren, Joseph and Karson, grow into remarkable individuals, stating that being a "PopPop" was by far his greatest joy and exemplified what true love meant.

Kevin's life was marked not only by his philanthropic spirit but also by a vibrant personality that drew people to him. He was known for never turning anyone away and always offering a helping hand to those in need. He had a love for the color blue, enjoyed NCIS reruns, cherished his family, and had a particular fondness for lottery scratch-off tickets. His appreciation for music ranged from country to classic rock-n-roll, creating a soundtrack filled with meaningful memories. He often remarked, “I lost all my luck when I met Linda; I used up all of mine to marry her and have my children,” showcasing the love and humor that characterized his life.

Kevin was also proud of his contributions to his community, having served as a City Council Alderman. He played a pivotal role in planning and approving the construction of a new Community Center, which proudly bears his name on a plaque inside the facility—a lasting testament to his dedication and service.

Kevin leaves behind his beloved wife of 33 years, Linda; children, Joshua Sanchez and wife Brittnie Leiting, Kelcy Sanchez, Kassidy Thoms and wife Samantha, Brianna Conley, and Jennifer Cardona Morton. He is also survived by his treasured grandchildren, Joseph Kelsey, Karson Kelsey, Jacob, Joseph, Janessa, and Julian Cardona. Kevin is remembered by his brother, Michael Thoms; sister, Paula Pittman; mother-in-law, Jane Floyd; brothers-in-law, Ralph Floyd and Scott Reeves; sister-in-law, Sharron Reeves; nieces and nephews along with a community of dear friends, including Cheryl and Randall Wiggleton, who were recognized as honorable mentions among his brothers and sisters in Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Thoms and Melba Gunning Thoms; brother, Joseph Thoms; father-in-law, Ralph Floyd; sister-in-law, Kimmie Reeves; and niece, Sarah Reeves.

Kevin's legacy of kindness, love for family, and unwavering community service will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will be cherished, his spirit celebrated, and his life honored by both family and friends, forever inspired by his example of compassion and generosity.
