Shortly after departing the Naval Air Technical Training Command (NATTC), he checked into his first duty station, VAW-120 in Norfolk, Virginia, during which time he went TAD to CNATTU Norfolk for the C2-A Greyhound “C” school. While assigned to VAW-120, he served as an Avionics Technician in work center 210. In October of 2014, he checked out of VAW-120 to depart for CNATTU Norfolk for “C” school for the E-2C Group two.AT2 (AW/SW) David checked into VAW-123 in January 2015. He served as an Avionics Technician in work center 210. He quickly advanced to Petty Officer Second Class after checking into the command where he became the Avionics Night Shift Supervisor, responsible for leading five Aviation Electronics Technicians. As a leader he emphasized the importance of training and the completion of qualifications in a timely manner resulting in a 24 percent increase in shop qualifications. In addition, he selflessly dedicated numerous off duty hours in support of Norfolk area Habitat for Humanity and the annual environmental base-wide clean-up. His most passionate off duty time spent is with his 4 year old son, Elijah. His qualifications in the command included AT Apprentice, AT Journeyman, 210/310 CDI, Plane Captain, Brake Rider, Cockpit Familiarization, Oil Consumption, Fuel Surveillance, Hydraulic Contamination, Nan Cart, NC-10/108, Tow Tractor, Light Cart, Huffer, Hydraulic Generator, EKMS, Flight Deck Familiarization, Final Checker, Low Power Turn Operator, and Flight Line/Deck Coordinator. AT2 David is VAW-123’s 2018 Sailor of the Year. AT2 David was the squadron's most knowledgeable Aviation Electronics Technician. He excelled as the Night Check Work Center Supervisor and his troubleshooting acumen far surpassed the abilities of his supervisors. His character was inspiring. He didn't know the meaning of "give up" when extremely difficult electronics issues affected our aircraft. In numerous cases, he was the compass that kept his work center focused and on track in repairing degraded systems. His personality was that of a man consumed by the need to laugh and smile and he could be counted on when the chips were down to push himself and others through difficult tasks. AT2 David was a warfighter. He will not be easily replaced and already we feel the void left by his passing. He is survived by his loving wife, Rolanda David and their son, Elijah O. David; parents, John and Lisa David of Mabelvale, Arkansas; brother, Zachary David; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raphael and Cheryl Driver of Cleveland, Texas.
