Mary Roberta Whitmire, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2024, at 86. Born on December 29, 1937, in Midkiff, Texas, Mary was a woman of deep faith and unwavering love, who enriched the lives of all who knew her.
Mary's sparkling personality was like alum mixed with honey. She radiated warmth and kindness, serving her Lord faithfully throughout her life. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. Mary loved to play the game of 42, where she often showcased her strategic skillfulness. More than that, she treasured her family, especially the little ones, always looking forward to the annual gatherings which were filled with love, joy, and her favorite phrase: "Shut that door and wait a minute." It was a phrase that perfectly encapsulated her spirited nature and the heartwarming interactions she held dear.
She is survived by her loving children, Marilea "Susie" Reynolds and her husband Randy, Sammy Whitmire and his wife Rhonda, Carolyn Atchley, Bruce Whitmire and his wife Wendy, and Jessie Whitmire and his wife Dee. Mary's legacy of love continues through her children, her 30 grandchildren, her 36 great-grandchildren, her 3 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other loving family members and treasured friends touched by her gentleness and generosity.
Mary was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 33 years, Jessie Whitmire Jr., whom she cherished deeply. She reunites now with her beloved parents, John Samuel Presley and Eunice Tincy Early, her grandson Joel Mark Whitmire, her brothers Don Presley and Ricky Early, and her great-grandson Kevin Bradley Whitmire—loved ones who await her with open arms.
Mary Roberta Whitmire leaves behind a rich tapestry of cherished memories and lasting impacts on those who had the fortune to call her family or friend. Her life was a beautiful testament to love, faith, and the bonds of family. As we gather to celebrate her legacy, we find solace in knowing that she touched our lives in ways that will remain forever in our hearts.
