Ola Mae Wetzel, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her family, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion. Born on September 22, 1926, in Ocker, Texas, Ola Mae embraced life with an unwavering spirit and a heart filled with compassion.
In her early years, Ola Mae dedicated herself to caring for her husband, Eugene Alfred Wetzel, and their three sons, Wayne, Kenneth, and Gary. As the matriarch of the household, she instilled values of kindness, resilience, and faith in her family, setting a strong foundation that her sons carry with them today. Ola Mae's nurturing soul was constantly evident, as she offered comfort and guidance to those she held dear.
As she transitioned into later years, Ola Mae found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her love for gardening brought vibrant colors and fragrances to her home, reflecting the beauty she saw in life. An avid reader, she often lost herself in the pages of books, exploring new worlds while continuing to nurture her knowledge and spirit. Later in life she tried and enjoyed fishing. She traveled to Nashville Tennessee and Arkansas where she dug for diamonds. In her later years she found Facebook and loved keeping up with all her loved ones and closely followed all her nieces, nephews, and their children.
Ola Mae was not only a devoted mother but also a faithful servant of the Lord, serving as the oldest member of the Pin Oak Baptist Church in Cleveland, Texas. Her unwavering faith shone brightly in her actions and her kindness left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. She was a beacon of light, offering her wisdom and love to all who sought it.
Ola Mae will be deeply missed by her loved ones. She is survived by her three loving sons, Wayne Wetzel and his wife Kay, Kenneth Wetzel and his wife Rhonda, and Gary Wetzel. Her brother, Clint Alton Pelzl, remains touched by her memory. The warmth she brought into their lives continues through her grandchildren, Quinton Eugene Wetzel, Peyton Wayne Wetzel, Kendall Lynn Wetzel, Justin Wetzel, and Michelle Denise Guerrero and her husband Jorge. Ola Mae's legacy lives on in her great-grandchildren, Keaton Anthony Allen, Mason Elizabeth Usher, Heaven Wetzel, and her great-great-grandson, Rowan Anthony Allen, Nathan Gilbert, along with numerous other loving family members and treasured friends.
Ola Mae is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene; her parents, Herbert Pelzl and Emillie Newman; her half-brother Lee Holman, her brother, Dalton Pelzl; her sisters, Mable Schilling, Evora Niekamp, and Mary Boman Thrasher; and her grandson, Christopher Odell Wetzel. Each of these relationships shaped her life in unique ways, and their memories will resonate within the hearts of her family forever.
As we remember Ola Mae Wetzel, we celebrate a life well-lived and a woman whose love continues to inspire us all. Her spirit, embodying unconditional love and genuine kindness, will remain forever in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.
A visitation for Ola Mae will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM located at Neal Funeral Home 200 S. Washington Ave. Cleveland, TX 77327.
